Pocket knives - BEAD BLASTING AND STONEWASHED FINISH KNIFE

Pocket knives

Bead blasting and stone washing are mechanical treatments of blades for achieving a distinct look and finish. For both technics, it is common that the blade gets demanded appearance, and the blade surface becomes harder due to many repeated impacts of abrasive media. Bead blasting and stonewashing are appropriate for outdoor and tactical knives.

BEAD BLASTED KNIFE

Bead blasting is a process of surface treatment by which compressed air propels small particles of abrasive material on the blade surface. Depending on steel type and demanded surface, different abrasive materials are being used. Most common are fine particles of glass, ceramics, aluminium oxide… Bead blasting increases the resistance of the blade surface. The result is also a non-reflective blade surface. Bead blasting is appropriate for all types of blade steels, carbon, high-carbon stainless and tool steel.

STONEWASHED KNIFE

The stonewashing process achieves Stonewashed blade surface finish. This process is a surface treatment where the blade is placed into a vibrating box or rotating tumbler filled with special abrasive stones. The result of that treatment is an opaque surface that reflects only on some points. Due to stone washing, the surface of the blade is harder. Stone washing is suitable for all types of steel, but it is most appropriate for non-stainless steels, especially high-carbon and tools steels
