Pocket knives - CLIP-POINT BLADE KNIFE

Pocket knives

The clip-point blade is one of the most commonly used blade types. They are used for knives of all purposes. Clip-point blades have a distinct shape on the back side of the blade. The first part of the blade is in a straight line parallel to the handle; after that, it has a concave shape all the way up to the blade point. Bowie knives are a great example of the clip-point blade design.

The backside of the blade is narrow, and although it has a thin edge, usually it is not sharpened. However, if the blade’s backside is sharpened, this increases the cutting possibilities of the knife. Due to the straight or concave shape of the blade’s backside, the blade narrows up to the point; therefore, clip-point blades have really sharp points. Such blade geometry enables a faster and easier stab.

Clip-point blades have been used since Ancient Macedonia. Since then, many different types of clip-point blades have been developed.
